Chinese tea · a brand manual

A tea catalogue drawn as a brand manual

Grid, base unit, clear space, a row of inks. Every tea is presented the way an identity studio presents a logotype: constructed, measured, captioned.

Brand manual spread on pinkish cream paper: a Chinese logotype on a blue construction grid, a cup used as a scale, geometric frameworks and a row of brown Pantone swatches

What this manual is

A brand manual is the most honest form of design writing: it shows the grid, the base unit, the clear space and the exact inks, then gets out of the way. We build every tea page the same way. Ripe pu-erh gave us the palette, eight browns from dark infusion to warm highlight, with one red kept for the seal. Captions are set in mono because a caption is data, not persuasion. The method follows the ID&B way of drawing identity documents. What you are reading is a design study, not a store: nothing is offered for sale, and we are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by ID&B.
